HARLEY-DAVIDSON'S WOMEN'S RIDE 2008 WAS AWESOME!

Presented by Sasha www.bikerlady.com:
Yeah, the skies were pregnant with a little rain all day. But I'll tell you what didn't wait to drop, TEARS. Oh, the 400+ women riding in the parade felt the tears take a cheekward stroll as we participated in a history-making event. Harley-Davidson's first ever women's parade. Apparently it was 500 strong. All I could gather was several lines of Harleys and Buells stacked up ready to ride -- I had no idea what the final count was.

From Music City USA, I rode the southbound twists and wide open highway enroute to my destination: the curvaceous celebration of Harley and Buell chicks riding together in the first ever Parade of its kind. Oh the power of our HOURglass - it is ALL in the CURVES as folks hailed the femme force of riders roarrring down International Speedway and onto A1A! Led by Karen Davidson of the Harley-Davidson empire and a group of six selected females who wrote compelling essays about their riding experience and mentors, including the female executives of Harley-Davidson's women's outreach program, we waved and revved blazing a new Parade trail. The Parade was also a fundraiser for MDA.

The energy was full throttle excitement. Let the pictures tell the story.

Leah Whaley, regional manager of Harley Owners Group, mid-west territory, is a long time windsister to me.  And, yes, Harley chicks absolutely rule...so do custom chopper chicks.

The best place to proclaim your feelings about your job is on your motorcycle helmet.  The road is truth serum.

Motormaids!

A trio of Motor Maids, the FIRST North American female motorcycle club http://www.motormaids.org/ founded by Linda Dugeau who, in the late '30s, wrote to dealers and shops all over the country to find other female motorcycle riders.  Dot Robinson became the legendary club's first president.  Betty Robinson Fauls (far right) is Dot Robinson's daughter.  Betty rides her mother's pink Harley-Davidson dresser with a side car attached.

We Harley-Davidson hunny's and Buell bunny's with girl power prowess, prowled the asphalt for the all girl parade at Daytona 2008.

Little Female on Big BIKES everywhere

Little female on a big bike was a familiar sight at the Parade....watch out curves ahead!

The flag is mounted on my bike Miss Tigerlily, which, by the way, she was THE most radical Harley-Davidson custom chopper there.  Everybody wanted a photo of this femme fatale chopperita.

Harley Chicks KICK BUTT

Fair skies for the Parade.  Rain Rain Go Away.  And it did...because Harley Chicks KICK BUTT!

Dig the tricked out trike.  You see, Miss Bonnie here has a handicap license plate.  A handicap would never stop her from riding.  So, she added a third wheel to her scooter, and a lot of room to pack groceries and live off of her bike.

Polish perfect.  That's her baby.  Shine!  Yes, we all shined that Parade day!

49% Bitch - 51% Sweetheart.  Don't Push Your Luck.  And don't mess with any female Harley rider sporting a Pink Mohawk.

Gabbing it up.  Coffee Harley talk....

Karen Davidson arrives to lead the parade, flying past Honda on Harley wings.

Women in the Wind Motorcycle Club, a proud member.  www.womeninthewind.org.  The club was founded in 1979 by Becky Brown who is a 2008 Sturgis Motorcycle Museum inductee.  Three cheers for Becky!  The club now has over 60 chapters.

By way of Texas, she is here to ride in the Parade.  Note the matching outfit.  That's the thing about us girls, we love to create an ensemble with clothes, bike, accessories, both accessories for the body and bike.  After all, we embody our ride and the ride reflects our body, mind and soul.

Yeah, girl.  Live out loud and roar through life!

We couldn't get enough of Karen Davidson.  She is usually so behind- the-scenes busy as a fashionista designing sexy, functional and attractive riding apparel for Harley-Davidson.  Here she enthusiastically signs autographs.  I think if she could have taken us all home and have an all girl celebration in the backyard, she would have...she made us all feel very appreciated as part of the Harley-Davidson family.

Athena's shirt warns us about her Vagabond Choppers:  WARNING!  Our Choppers DO NOT Play Well with Trailers...  Athena drove while Genevieve sat backwards in the passenger seat to film the parade with her camcorder.

Karen Davidson poses with the six Get Down to Daytona winners and their respective mentors. The winners entered an essay contest sponsored by Harley-Davidson headquarters seeking the most interesting tales of ridership inspiration.  They rode into Daytona together from Atlanta, Georgia, enjoying pit stop parties at  Frazier's Harley-Davidson, then Savannah Harley-Davidson, and at Harley-Davidson of St. Augustine.  Their final destination was a celebratory parade at Daytona Bike Week.  Yes, group of very special folks bonded because of their Harley-Davidson motorcycles.  And they became a road family for life.  The winners: Carol Dicicco, Chalfont, Pa; Tonya Lamia,  Rockford, Ill; Kimberly Ryon, Harford, Pa; Shelli Strand, Birch Run, Mich; Jennifer Thorne, Mt. Pleasant, Pa; and Teresa Weston, Hermitage, Tenn.

parade high

We were all on a Parade high as we pulled up to the Ocean Center after flaunting our passion for Harley-Davidson and Buell motorcycles down International Speedway and A1A!!!!

parade happy

I am parade happy.  Tears streamed down my face to see the glorious sea of goddess riders, united in windsisterhood.  I live for moments like this.

Karen Davidson gives huge thanks to the Harley-Davidson female executives who flawlessly executed the Parade, the contest, and journey from Atlanta to Daytona for the winners.

Everyone on stage and onlookers are choked up to hear the wonderfully inspiring stories from the lucky six winners and their mentors.  The gal speaking ended up engaged the night before.  Her chrome charming proudly stands behind her.

This gal was so overwhelmed with tears and laughter from the magic experience that Harley-Davidson provided that she could hardly contain her enthusiasm and emotions.  Her soul was positively tickled to death over it all!

Leslie Prevish, the Director of Women's Outreach for Harley-Davidson speaks with American Idol runner up, Kimberly Locke, who rode her first Harley-Davidson that day.

Dad and daughter shared a life changing moment riding together on their special trip with Karen Davidson.  Her dad inspired her love for riding motorcycles.

I'm telling you, folks, riding changes your life forever.  It's like the way the wind will forcefully blow the curtain away from the window.  Pay attention to the calling in your heart to ride free.

Behind every strong man, is a stronger woman.  Karen Davidson gives thanks to her man.

The three top motorcycle riding fundraisers for this event, benefiting MDA www.mda.org are announced.  Joanne Mold, Lynne Cone, Dee Roberts.  They each are gifted with a Harley-Davidson 105th Anniversary jacket for their stellar fundraising efforts.

Lovely Marjorie "Shadow" Kleinman, Northeast Editor of Thunder Press, with some Thunder Press contributors.  Shadow was right there to capture the special all girl day!

A proud mom with her family speaks about the fine support she has received from the MDA, opportunities that would not be available to them otherwise.  Motorcycle riders are an extremely heart warming bunch.  The love and support riders give for all kinds of organizations, including individual needs, is astonishing and life changing.  No wonder why wings represent so many riders' personal symbols.  www.mda.org

Proud parents Nancy and Willie G. Davidson beam with love over their daughter Karen's accomplishment that day.
